What’s innovative about this experience is that it is created from the community’s perspective, their territory and lifestyle.
We aim to support our partners who have created different innovative methods integrating local leaders of rural communities and original towns. They are the strong voices in and out of their towns and have created a collective governance and management within their communities.

This Lickan Antay experience includes meeting Wildo, his ancestors have inhabited the desert for thousands of years and have learned and passed on the knowledge of how to live here. Wildo will share his story, his family’s and economic activities carried out in the desert. You’ll learn how to grow alfalfa crops, about farming animals and traditional Lickan Antay crafts and skills.

You’ll enjoy a traditional Atacamenian lunch, depending on the season it will be made up of local produce such as corn, quinoa, llama or lamb meat, seasonal vegetables and fruits, all locally prepared at Senderos de Coyo Restaurant.

You’ll have some time off to rest in the surrounding area before you head onto the Ancestral caravan.
This is an excursion that will allow you to relieve the wonderful experience of walking with llamas across the Atacama desert.
Sandra from the local community will teach you more about the history of the desert, how they live and work with it and their relationship with llamas travelling through the desert just as her ancestors taught her. You'll also get to interact with the llamas!
